A little background

I wish i could start my story with “once upon a time, there lived a princess in a big castle…”. Hey! I am a princess, no, a queen, but that is not where the story starts.

I am Congolese by blood, born in Lagos, Nigeria. I grew up mainly with my mother. My parents were never married. My dad left Nigeria long before I could even walk. I do not think he´s even in my first birthday pictures. He left in search of greener pastures I guess only that I did not really get to enjoy that, at least at first. I grew up with my mum, lots of aunties and uncles and loving grandparents. I remember my childhood to be fun.

My mum did not have it easy, being a single mother and working all at the same time. She made sure I had everything I needed and more. Birthdays were always a blast, new outfit, birthday present, birthday party with my friends. Do not get me started on the Christmas cloth every year. It was fun. I do not remember lacking a single thing. I do not really know if my dad ever contributed to that. Maybe he did, maybe he did not. our relationship is strained. And that is putting it mildly.

I smile as I write this post because it reminds me of my only years of fun on this earth. I moved to Germany from Nigeria in 2007. After many pleadings from my Father and his family, she decided it was in my best interest to leave, mainly to further my education.  And that my friends is how I came to Germany.

I guess if you want to know what happens afterwards, you will just have to stick around.
