Love love love

Happy valentine’s day my lovelies. I believe I have mentioned this before, but for those who do not know let me say this again, I love love. There is nothing in this world that will make me not believe in love or make me to not want to fall in love. I have so much love to give so why waste that love. I am so in this valentine’s day, I do not even know why and yes I am listening to love songs for dramatic effect. You know how when you are sad, you listen to sad songs for more sadness…yes, I do both, do not judge me.

What is love? Google really is your friend; it has the answer to everything. A few definitions I got from googling “an intense feeling of deep affection”, “a feeling of deep romantic or sexual attachment to someone” and so many more. These definitions are not necessarily wrong because you do feel all those emotions when you are in love with someone.

When it comes to matters like this, I have learnt to rely on what the bible tells me and like I said before I want that 1 Corinthians kind of love. In 1 Corinthians 13 love is basically broken down so if you do not know what love is that bible passage is your guide. Love is described as the greatest gift. In 1 Peter 4:8 it says, “Above all things love each other deeply, because Love covers a multitude of sins. John 15:12 says Love each other as I have loved you. Let us not forget John 3:16 and so many bible passages that show us that love goes beyond just “mere feelings”. Love goes beyond the “I love you”. Love is meant to be unconditional because God’s love for us is not tied to something. He loves us no matter what we do, or do not do. He loves us so much that he forgives us each time we confess our sins and he does not even care what you did, as long as you repent.

I do believe that everyone must experience unconditional love at least once in their lives. It does not matter if it ended up working out or not, but one must love and be loved at least once in their lifetime. I have experienced both romantic love and parental love. I love my son unconditionally. There is nothing my son will ever do that will make me stop loving him. We may fight, argue, he may get on my last nerve, which seems to be his favorite activity, but no matter how many tests me I still love him. He falls asleep and sometimes I stare at this child who has made me talk from dusk to dawn and I see how peaceful he is, and I think to myself it does not matter how difficult everything may seem now, how many setbacks I think I have had due to having him, he is one thing I have done right. He is by far the best thing that has ever happened to me, keeping him was by far the best decision I have ever made, not because of what he brings to the table, but because of what I want to be able to bring to the table for him, because I want to be the best version of a mother, the best version of myself for him. I have realized that love is in giving and not just receiving. God demonstrated his love by dying for us, he gave his life for us. So, what are you willing to sacrifice for a loved one, your child, your spouse etc.? Therein lies your love.

Valentine’s day is not just for couples, express love to your friends, your family, most importantly, yourself. Remember you cannot give what you do not have. Extend the love, you wish you would give a boyfriend or a girlfriend, to yourself. Treat yourself. Call your friends and family and tell them you love them. Look into the mirror and show yourself some love, not just today but every day. Now Chin up and read Isaiah 41:10.
